Felt Art: AI Beginner Guide for Animal Scenes

Creating AI art can feel magical — but for beginners, it can also feel overwhelming. How do you turn a simple prompt into a charming scene of animals that feels alive, balanced, and playful?

In this guide, I’ll share a method I call “stacked blocks” — a simple, modular approach to building whimsical felt-animal scenes with MidJourney (or any AI art generator), keeping gestures, proportions, and storytelling consistent in every frame.

First Test: Making Stacked Blocks Work

When I first experimented with my stacked-blocks approach, I began with a simple base prompt:

It worked — but there was a surprising catch.

I assumed that using a higher stylize value would give MidJourney more creative freedom and produce prettier scenes. Instead, high stylize introduced subtle distortions: proportions drifted, spacing felt off, and the cozy mood began to fade.

Lower stylize values kept everything stable. The animals looked natural, the layout stayed readable, and the overall warmth returned.

But once stylize is kept low, another challenge appears: to get consistently good results, you now need just the right amount of detail. Too little guidance leads to empty or vague scenes; too much creates visual noise. For beginners, finding this balance can feel slow and confusing.

That’s why I developed a modular, step-by-step method using stacked blocks. Each block builds one part of the scene, keeping everything consistent, controllable, and charming — even as you add more detail.

Building with Stacked Blocks

Think of each component as a block you can swap, adjust, or expand:

Number of animals & species — four foxes, three bears, or any combination.
Action / group behavior — walking, running, or jumping while holding hands.
Story detail — floating fireflies, fallen leaves, tiny props, or seasonal cues.
Background / setting — solid color, meadow, forest, or space adventure.
Theme keyword — anchor the scene with a phrase like “whimsical-style wool-felted toys of a forest stroll.”

Tricks for More Storytelling

Once you’ve locked in the stacked blocks, you can make each image richer.

Surrounding objects

Flowers, props, lanterns, or tiny books create a sense of place.

Keep the action fixed (holding hands + one clear gesture) to maintain recognizable structure.
Add story details sparingly — a few elements often read better than clutter.
